Paige and Chris was the last wedding of 2008. It was a very beautiful wedding with such sophistication. The weather well that's another story, but none the less the weather doesn't make a wedding the relationships do. This is why we love being a part of  weddings because of the little relationships that happen throughout the day. This wedding showcased relationships with family and friends in a special way. One of the highlights of the day for Julia and I was trying to get about 7 children (nieces and nephews of the b&g all under the age of 5) to look at the camera for one sec a large family picture. Lets just say they were bored with the wedding and the photographer. We made every noise, funny face you can imagine. (That's what should have been captured on film). In the end we pulled it off and the family Christmas card looks great!  Paige and Chris you have been such a pleasure to work with and thank you for all the kind words. We wish you all the best in your new life

Chad and Jamie had such a beautiful light about their day. Typically many think that harsh light (full sun) would not yield good results. Just the opposite in Julia and I's way of seeing light. We use it to our advantage. With great light you can use it to create such depth in an image. It takes some understanding but love the challenge of finding great light. We really enjoyed the clouds on this day and we used them as a background. The couple really allowed us to be us. We wish you guys all the best and just remember on your special day God showed all his beauty with fall colors and beautiful light. I know we are a few weeks behind on showcasing weddings but it has been a busy November. Thanks for taking time out of your day to stop by.

We now know what "stage parents" must feel like! We don't remember our son being so photogenic ... he usually closed one eye with the opened eye rolled upward and his smile screwed up to one side. The bride, our new daughter-in-law, on the other hand, is beautiful in every way! What a blessing for our family! Photographers J&J certainly captured the happiness of this special day ... Thanks for sharing.

The Grys family's home in Pekin, Illinois has been extremely made over. We teamed up with ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to unveil a new home for the Grys family and made a donation of approximately 40 photography pieces in efforts to help make the new house a home and capture the Grys family.  This episode will air in January on ABC.

This opportunity was so exciting - seeing the Grys' receive something incredible for a change, which will enable them to give back even more.  We were honored to be a part of this amazing experience.

ABC chose the Grys family because of their ability to do more than just help children in need survive, but rather thrive, against the odds that result from disabilities.  The Grys parents have four children of their own, all of whom have continued on in social service of some type.  Over the years, the Grys' have fostered more than 250 children - three of which they adopted.  Two of the adopted children are twin girls born with fetal alcohol syndrome, thus resulting in mental disabilities.  The third is Jake, who is eight years old and suffers from dwarfism and brittle bone disease.

Jake is an amazing little guy and was truly the hero of the show.  He recently spoke at an Easter Seals event in front of thousands of people and helped to raise money for the organization.  He is such a bright child and impacts everyone he meets.  Jake brings people hope, and inspired both Julia and I during our time with the family.

Their inspiration is what drove us to capture and create images in what turned out to be one of the most difficult shooting conditions we have ever faced.

The process was so different than what we imagined - seeing what goes into making a TV show is really mind blowing.  We waited for approximately six hours before we were given 5 minutes with the entire family.  During those six hours, we had small increments of time with various family members.  The lighting conditions were less than ideal and continued to change as the day progressed, while the actual backdrop was not the location we would have chosen for a once in a lifetime opportunity. It was the most challenging situation to photograph in, and thankfully, due to our years of experience shooting weddings with less than desirable lighting and backdrops, we have learned to find the opportunities. We were also told to bring only camera and lenses. No external lighting. All we had was one scrim and a reflector.

This was such a wonderful experience for Julia and I.  First, to be given the opportunity to give back to a family that has done so much for children in need, and second to be so challenged as artists to pull from deep within our creativity and try to produce something special in the shooting and lighting conditions we were given - we are just so grateful to ABC.  We hope the Grys family enjoys the art created from their incredible family for years to come. We have already been contacted by ABC again to help out another family in Rhode Island. We offered our service to either shoot for them or help them find a photographer.

Here is a show of the images. Enjoy.  We will keep you up to date to when the show will air. We also want to think our Lab Burrell Color Imaging and our personal framer Barb Milacco (Exhibit A art gallery in Peoria,IL) they not only worked around the clock they donated all their products as well.

Wow! I love to watch Extreme Home Makeover! I always thought it would be awesome to work with Ty and his group of people to create and provide images of the families they help! And everytime I watch it, I think "someone should be documenting the family images for them"...
I love all the images, favorites are the ones in the sky (trampoline?).. The Gry Family and ABC are LUCKY to get you guys! And I'm sure you got alot of love from it too. Looking forward to the episode. k

Hey I am so glad you had the chance to photograph this family. I photographed Jake last year for an Easter Seals calendar and he was so cute and just cracked me up the whole time I was shooting him. When I heard that they were getting a new house.....it was too late to ask if i could do anything although we did try to get in contact with them. It looks like you guys did a great job in less than ideal conditions! I am sure it was fun to be a part of the whole event!
See you guys in January!

The Photos that are placed in our new home are probably my favorite part of the whole experience. With as many children as we have and busy schedules along with limited resources, we have very very few family photos. This gift is something that is truely PRICELESS to us. There is no way to thank you for our treasured photos. They captured our family perfectly. (you even disguised the confused deer in the headlights look all of us had because of the shock of what was happening to us!)
Thank you again for creating priceless memories!

The photography was wonderful and very inspiring. Every time I watch the show that is what I want to do is give them family portraits they can treasure. There should be a non-profit organization that works with Extreme Makeover to give different photographs a chance to do something so remarkable. I hope one day, I get the chance. Awesome Work!!

November 21, 2008 //
Well, Julia and I finally broke down to the puppy dog eyes of our children. Twelve years ago, Nov 18th marked a special day in our life.  It was the birth of our only son, Josiah. Over the last 4 years, he has been asking for a puppy. Our answer was NO because, we have too hectic of a lifestyle to add another thing to our plate. Well, we started noticing Josiah's love and passion for animals. Not just dogs, but animals in general. Then he got his sisters in on the act and all of them, with those (Julia look a like eyes) began to work on us. We finally gave in, flew down to Austin, TX and purchased a little Boston Terrier we named, Wrigley Jo ( I will let you guess where the names come from). Ok, I will tell you, Wrigley is from our beloved Cubs who choose not to disappoint us, year after year. (Maybe this pup will bring them some luck.) What about Jo? Non other than Michael JOrdan the greatest basketball player of all time and favorite son of Chicago (well until Obama came to town). Josiah has hopes of competing with Wrigley in agility competitions. Wrigley comes from a great line of champions himself.

Here is a quick fact for all those that love to know more about the Woodses. All except one of our kids have been born in a Chicago Bull Championship years and Julia and I were married when they won their first title in 91. I know I know, I am sick in the head with sports. None the less we are bringing "Wrig" into a wonderful home and with all the attention he can handle. So, when you come to the studio I am sure he will be here waiting to meet you as well!

I think it is awesome that you flew to Austin and bought a puppy from a breeder that cares about the quality of animals that they are producing. Some people don't understand that buying from puppymills makes the problem WORSE! Congrats Jeff and Julia on your new addition to your family. He is going to be well loved, and you made a great decision :)

Well it has been long overdue and I am sure I am going to have to work hard to get some readers back but none the less it is finally here. With this new blog you can see what happening in the life of J&J. We will be showcasing some new work and also showing you the newest member of the Woods crew. You can also follow us on Twitter (upper right hand corner). So there are a few changes coming with the blog but something that will stay the same is my poor grammar and mispelled words. I can gurantee you that wont change!! ha-ha

Leave a comment and let me know what things you would like to see on the new blog! Since this blog get read by photographers all across the world. I will also be doing "Whats Jeff doing now?". That is the question I get everyday from my wonderful wife, so I am going to show you what jeff is doing now. (stay tuned)
